Foreign Trade Zone 230 is a multi-site General
Purpose Zone located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.
Sites are located in Alamance, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, and Surry Counties in a variety of industrial settings. The Piedmont Triad Partnership
is the Grantee of the Zone, and markets it to businesses that can
utilize it to create jobs and increase economic activity in the

Benefits of Foreign Trade Zones
Duty Deferral – Customs duties are paid only when imported merchandise
is shipped into US Customs territory.
Exports – Customs duties are not paid on merchandise exported from the
zone.
Defects, Damage, Waste – Duties are reduced or eliminated on merchanise
lost to defect, damage, obsolescence, waste and scrap.
Inverted Customs Duty Savings – FTZ users may elect to pay the duty
rate applicable to component materials or merchandise produced from the
component materials, whichever is lower.
International Returns – Merchandise exported and subsequently returned
to the FTZ is not subject to Customs duties upon return.
Simplification of Import/Export Procedures – Delays in Customs
clearances and duty drawback procedures are eliminated. Delivery
times are reduced by direct shipments to the FTZ.
Exhibition – Merchandise may be held for exhibition without Customs
duty payments.
Country of Origin Marking – No country-of-origin markings are required
on merchandise admitted to the FTZ, saving an up-front expense. If
needed, labels can be applied in the FTZ.
Locations of FTZ 230
Piedmont Triad International Airport
Located in western Guilford County, a 2,800 acre tract of the airport
property has been designated a foreign trade zone site.
Alamance County
Several industrial and warehouse facilities totaling 994,000 sq ft in Burlington, Haw River and Mebane.
High Point
A total of 447 acres of industrial property is included in the High
Point site of FTZ 230. The site includes existing industrial buildings and sites for new construction in Kivett Drive Industrial Park, Piedmont Corporate Park, Premier Center Business Park and Piedmont Centre.
Mt. Airy/Surry County
Two separate industrial parks in Surry County are included in FTZ 230.
Piedmont Triad West Corporate Park includes several graded sites. Westwood Industrial Park,
with 125 acres offers another opportunity to take advantage of FTZ
status in Surry County.
Winston-Salem
Salem Business Park includes several available buildings on 78 acres
in Winston-Salem.
Lexington
Lexington Business Park is a 188 acre business park with located off Interstate 85 in Davidson County.
Davie County
SouthPoint Business Park is a 131 acre business park located off Interstate 40 that includes available space and greenfield sites.
SubZone Status
Currently, FTZ #230 has one active "subzone" that allows the benefits of the Zone, without physically locating in it. United Chemi-Con in Ashe County operates with subzone status.
