2009 National Black Theatre Festival
The National Black Theatre Festival was established in 1989 to unite Black theatre companies and ensure their success in the new millennium. This year, the event will showcase more than 25 Black theatre companies from the U.S., Europe, Africa and the Caribbean in more than 100 performances. The event draws approximately 65,000 national and international patrons, theatre professionals and scholars to Winston-Salem biennially and has been named one of the top 100 events in North America for 2009 by the American Bus Association. |
Surry Community College Breaks Ground Surry Community College has broken ground on the North Carolina Center for Viticulture and Enology. The $5 million complex will position Surry Community College to better partner with community colleges and universities across the Southeast to meet the needs of this diverse industry. Surry Community College is located in the heart of the Yadkin Valley AVA. Surry Community College has offered courses in viticulture since 1999 and currently offers a two-year degree in Viticulture and Enology. Students receive practical experience in a five-acre vineyard and bonded winery on the college campus.
