Wyndham Championship named PGA Tour officials named the Wyndham Championship last year’s “Most Improved Event” for its seamless transition to Sedgefield Country Club. In 2008, sponsors and fans throughout the region showed great support for the tournament as both the third and final rounds of the tournament enjoyed sellout crowds. The Wyndham Championship put on a first-class presentation for players, spectators and sponsors. Players heaped praise on the Donald Ross-designed Sedgefield Country Club and spectators were treated to convenient parking, improved on-site experiences and enhanced fan viewing areas. The Wyndham Championship, captured by Carl Pettersson in 2008, will be held August 17-23, 2009 at Sedgefield Country Club.

Governor Purdue selects Department of Commerce Secretary from the Piedmont Triad Region January 2009 heralded the beginning of a new state administration in North Carolina, headed by Governor Beverly Perdue. Perdue named J. Keith Crisco to the cabinet-level position of Secretary of Commerce. As Secretary, Crisco oversees an array of divisions charged with promotion of business and trade growth, community progress, and workforce development in North Carolina. A longtime resident of Randolph County, Crisco is a Harvard graduate with 38 years of experience in business and commerce. Crisco has strong ties to this Region; he has served as President and Chairman of Asheboro Elastics Corporation and is a former Asheboro City Council member. The new Secretary understands the myriad challenges associated with successfully managing a business, including the critical roles that innovation and global trade play in sustaining a competitive edge. Secretary Crisco is uniquely positioned to bring strong direction to his new role of promoting North Carolina as a comfortable and competitive home for new business and industry. |
