Aviation & Aerospace

Companies that make time-critical products are finding that the Piedmont Triad is an outstanding location and provides serious benefits. The Region's strategic mid-Atlantic location, extensive transportation infrastructure and supply-chain support capabilities combine to make the 12-county region a preferred location for aviation and aerospace.

In addition to the ideal East Coast location at the intersection of five major interstates, other aviation and aerospace companies operate here, and cite such factors as the region’s quality of life, skilled workforce, support from the local colleges and universities, support from the Piedmont Triad International Airport for operation and testing activities, good weather, good living and business environments, and excellent shipping resources from the coming FedEx hub for having chosen the Piedmont Triad as home. Regional aviation companies also state that excellent shipping resources from the  FedEx Mid-Atlantic sorting hub at the Piedmont Triad International Airport as a reason for having chosen the Piedmont Triad as home.

Executives at B/E Aerospace and Atlantic Aero discuss Why the Piedmont Triad is a great location for aviation companies to do business---

 Other factors to consider:

  • The Piedmont Triad has a solid base of Aviation and Aerospace industry partners, led by giants such as TIMCO Aviation Services, B/E Aerospace, Comair and Bridgestone Aircraft Tire (USA) Inc. The Piedmont Triad International Airport is also located in the heart of the region.
  • Educational assets in the Region include Guilford Technical Community College’s (GTCC) three aviation programs at its T.H. Davis Aviation Center which prepare workers for careers in the Region’s growing aerospace and aviation industry. GTCC also has an Articulation Agreement in Professional Aeronautics with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) which is designed to facilitate the transfer of students from GTCC to ERAU.
  • Honda Motor Company is building its new Honda Aircraft Company subsidiary at Piedmont Triad International Airport. The company plans to build its HondaJet, a super efficient, light business jet nearby, using engines built by Honda Aero Inc., which is based at the Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport.
  • In context with the region's superb location for commerce, established logistics and distribution industry, and its well skilled human resources, the energetic growth of aviation in the area positions the Piedmont Triad as an aerotropolis of major importance in global economics.
