Liberty Hardware, a subsidiary of Masco Inc. and in business since 1942, moved its operations from Long Island, NY to High Point in the 1980s to be near the furniture market. The furniture industry once dominating the region's manufacturing has since dwindled, but Liberty Hardware – specializing in cabinet and furniture hardware and recognized as providing the best service in the industry – now serves the world from its convenient Winston-Salem location. A move was considered several years ago, with Jacksonville, FL, Savannah, GA, and Barnwell, SC as contenders in their decision-making. But the company chose to stay in the Piedmont Triad – largely because they found the workforce that could meet their needs. In addition, the proximity of Piedmont Triad International Airport – with the pending opening of a new FedEx hub –complements the interstate highway system and port accessibility that are central to the organization's smooth operation. Company President Robert Buck states, "The Triad has been a wonderful place to recruit the kind of people we need in our organization."

nCoat Inc. and High Performance Coatings, the first a parent company of the second, have both found the location and resources of the Piedmont Triad to be the best match for their needs. It was actually the subsidiary – High Performance Coatings – that relocated here from Utah, which was then followed by Burlington-based nCoat. "North Carolina has an ample workforce, well trained in manufacturing," says Paul Clayson, CEO of nCoat Inc. The support of government officials, other corporations, the Piedmont Triad Partnership and a workforce that is plentiful, motivated and willing to be trained have confirmed for the company that their location in the Piedmont Triad is ideal. Clayson is especially appreciative of the availability of university technical resources that aid in research and cooperative programs with community colleges that train future workers for high-tech responsibilities.

TIMCO Aviation Services maintains, repairs and overhauls commercial, military and other airplanes. The company employs some 1,600 workers at Piedmont Triad International Airport. When considering a choice between Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Lake Charles Regional Airport in Louisiana and the Piedmont Triad Region, the Piedmont Triad came out ahead in terms of business costs, workforce availability and location. A friendly and helpful business environment has helped make the company's experience a positive one. Company President Ron Utecht asserts that, "Within the local labor pool, there is a good subset with experience and a strong passion for aviation … The moderate-to-low cost of living relative to other parts of the country, the desirability of the community as a place to raise a family, good school options and reliable government support make the region very important for TIMCO."
